How to avoid selling the same item twice
You avoid double sales by shrinking the gap between “sold” and “delisted everywhere”. Cross-list only items you have one of, delist the moment something sells, and use a tool that does the delisting for you.
Updated October 2026. Crosslisty is a Chrome extension (it also works in Brave and Edge) that copies a listing to the other marketplaces, fills each form for you, and removes sold items from your other listings.
How double sales happen
A double sale is a race. An item sells on one marketplace, and before you remove it from the others, a second buyer pays. The longer the gap between sale and cleanup, the likelier it is. It tends to happen with popular items, which are exactly the ones you want to sell fast.
Habits that prevent it
- Crosslist one-of-a-kind items only unless a marketplace supports quantity and you track stock.
- Delist before you pack. Remove the other listings the moment you see a sale, before anything else.
- Put a stock code in every title or SKU (for example “A123”) so you can find an item on any marketplace in seconds.
- Check every marketplace on a schedule if you do it by hand, not only when you remember.
- Use notifications. Turn on sale alerts in every marketplace app so a sale reaches you at once.
Let a tool close the gap
Crosslisty checks items that are listed on two or more marketplaces about every 15 minutes while your browser is open. It calls a sale only after the marketplace confirms it on two separate checks. It then removes the other listings from Poshmark, Mercari, Depop and Vinted, asking you first unless you turn on automatic removal, and checks that each listing is really gone. For eBay, Etsy and Facebook it opens the right page so you can end the listing yourself. It cannot make the gap zero, since it checks every 15 minutes, but it makes sure the cleanup is never forgotten. See how auto delisting works.

Questions
Is selling the same item on two sites risky?
The risk is a double sale, not the listing itself. It is small if you delist quickly and large if you check only now and then.
Should I use multiple quantities to be safe?
Only on marketplaces that support quantity, and only if you track stock. For single items, crosslist and delist.
How fast do I need to delist?
As fast as you can. Minutes matter on popular items.
Can software remove the risk completely?
No tool can, because every tool checks at intervals. A good one shrinks the gap and never forgets the cleanup.
