Why do crosslisted listings come out wrong?
Asked on Reddit: “Help out of crosslist hell...” in r/Depop
Every marketplace asks for different fields, with different limits, so a straight copy never fits perfectly. The fix is a tool that respects each marketplace’s limits and tells you what it could not fill, plus a 30-second check before you post.
The shortcut: Crosslisty trims titles and descriptions to each marketplace’s limits, then shows a checklist of what it filled and what you still need to check, with a button that jumps to each field.
Add to Chrome, freeUpdated October 2026. Crosslisty is a Chrome extension (it also works in Brave and Edge) that copies a listing to the other marketplaces, fills each form for you, and removes sold items from your other listings.
Why a copy is never exact
- Different fields. eBay has item specifics, Poshmark has an original price and a listing price, Depop has no title field.
- Different limits. A title that fits eBay’s 80 characters may be cut on another marketplace, and Mercari’s description allows far less than Etsy’s.
- Different categories. The same sweater sits in a different category tree on each marketplace, so category and condition need a human check.
- Different photo rules. Each marketplace accepts a different number of photos and crops them to its own frame.
The limits Crosslisty works to
| Marketplace | Title | Description | Photos |
|---|---|---|---|
| eBay | 80 characters | 4,000 characters | 24 |
| Poshmark | 80 characters | 1,500 characters | 16 |
| Mercari | 80 characters | 1,000 characters | 12 |
| Depop | No title field | 1,000 characters | 8 |
| Etsy | 140 characters | 10,000 characters | 20 |
| Vinted | 100 characters | 2,000 characters | 20 |
| 100 characters | 5,000 characters | 10 |
These are the limits Crosslisty uses when it fills a form. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm anything critical on the marketplace itself.
The usual problems and what to do
- Photos with bars or crops. Use square or near-square photos with the item centred, so any crop keeps it in frame.
- A title that reads cut off. Put the brand and item first, extras last. Crosslisty trims at a word boundary, so the end is what goes.
- Wrong or empty category. Category and condition pickers differ everywhere. Check them after the fill.
- Missing item specifics on eBay. eBay asks for many specifics. Fill the ones buyers filter by, such as size, colour and material.
- Shipping and weight. These depend on your package and marketplace, so set them yourself.
A 30-second check before you post
- Open the checklist and look at every row that is not marked filled.
- Read the title out loud. Does it still make sense?
- Check price, category, condition and shipping.
- Scroll the photos in order. The first one is the thumbnail.
- Only then press the marketplace’s own post button.
Why Crosslisty never posts for you
A tool that posts on its own can publish a wrong category or a cropped photo before you see it. Crosslisty fills the form and stops, so a bad fill costs you a few seconds of fixing, not a bad live listing.
Questions
Why are my crosslisted photos cropped?
Each marketplace crops photos to its own frame. Square or near-square photos with the item centred survive every crop.
Why was my title shortened?
Marketplaces limit titles differently. Crosslisty trims to the destination’s limit at a word boundary. Depop has no title field, so the title goes at the top of the description.
Why is the category wrong or empty?
Marketplaces use different category trees, so the category usually needs a human check. Crosslisty fills what it can and lists what you still need to check.
How many photos can I copy to each marketplace?
It depends on the marketplace: for example Depop takes 8 and eBay takes 24. See the table above.
